Change your life with the Hermetic Principles of the Kybalion

Kybalion

The Kybalion is one of the most influential books on Hermeticism ever written, and can be considered the definitive guide to understanding this ancient philosophy. It was written in 1908 by three anonymous authors who called themselves The Three Initiates. This work was based on the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus, who, according to The Three Initiates, was the father of wisdom

The seven principles

If you're a believer in the Law of Attraction, you're probably wondering how to apply it to your life. You know that the universe is mental and that everything in it is connected—but how do you make sense of it?

We must begin by understanding the seven principles of Hermeticism, which are:

1. The principle of Mentalism: The All is mind; the universe is mental projection of the whole. Nothing is separate or outside of the whole.

2.  The principle of Correspondence: As above, so below; as inside, so outside. This principle is manifested in the three Great Planes: the Physical, the Mental and the Spiritual.

3. The principle of Vibration: Absolutely everything is in motion. Nothing rests; Everything moves; Everything vibrates.

4. The principle of Polarity: Everything is double;  Everything has two poles; everything, its pair of opposites: similar and dissimilar are the same; opposites are the same in nature, but different in degree; ends meet; all truths are half truths; all paradoxes can be reconciled.

5.  The principle of Rhythm: Everything goes up and down; Everything has its periods of advance and retreat. It's important to know when you're at the top of your cycle and when you're at the bottom, so you can harness the energy of the former and avoid the chaos of the latter.

6.  The principle of Cause and Effect:  Every cause has its effect; Every effect has its cause; everything happens according to the law; luck or chance is nothing more than the name given by human beings to describe it; there are many plans of causality, but nothing escapes that Law.

7.  The principle of The Gender Law: Gender exists everywhere, on all planes, in all dimensions, in all things, and must be understood as such if we are to make any progress in achieving balance within ourselves and our world.

Mentalism

The universe is the mind of the whole, and we are real within it.

We exist because of our connection to the universe, and everything we can see or touch is just a manifestation of its mind.

It's very simple: if you think about it, you will realize that nothing outside of your own mind exists for you. Everything in your life is a projection of your own thoughts and feelings. What does this mean? It means that anything you want to happen in your life - whether it's getting a promotion at work or finding love - can be made possible through the power of your own mind.

You may think this sounds too good to be true, but science backs up these claims: studies have shown that our minds are capable of affecting physical matter (and vice versa). This principle has been used for millennia by shamans and mystical yogis who have used their minds to connect with the universe around them and manipulate it at will. Imagine what YOU could do if you could harness this power!

How to use?

It's time to start building a world full of happiness in your mind, when you already have control of your thoughts, little by little you will be able to materialize them. But if your mind controls you, what world does it give you? Do you like your life?

Correspondence

We all have the tendency to try to compartmentalize our lives, but life does not work that way. The principle of Correspondence states that there is always a correspondence between the laws of phenomena on the different planes of being and life. It states that there is harmony between the physical plane, the mental plane and the spiritual plane, which means that all planes of existence are connected and in correspondence. The macrocosm is found in the microcosm and vice versa: solar systems, societies and life on Earth reflect the same.

That is, what we do in the microcosm will also affect our behavior on other levels. Even small habits influence us enormously. In doing anything, we will also do everything: if we neglect one area of our life, other areas will most likely be affected as well.

How to use?

Before you say or do something, think that it will have repercussions from the largest to the tiniest matter, and that it will have repercussions for good or bad in your own existence. Think about what you want for yourself and for your life; so that your actions correspond to that attitude.

Vibration

Everything is in motion. That is the principle of vibration

If you look at any object, it's not just a solid object with a pretty color—it's made up of molecules that are vibrating at different frequencies. And if you look closer, those molecules aren't just sitting still—they're moving too. And if you look closer yet, there are even smaller particles inside those molecules that are moving around even faster. It's an endless chain of vibrations, all intertwined and interdependent on each other to create what we see as "reality."

This principle explains the differences between all matter, force, mind and even spirit itself—they're just different states of vibration. From the purest form of spirit (which is essentially a state of infinite intensity) to the smallest form of matter (which is so dense that it seems to be motionless), everything is in motion: the higher it is on this scale, the higher its position on the scale.

How to use?

Imagine this: you're sitting in a chair and there's a screen in front of you. On the screen is a movie that's playing, but it's not just any movie—it's your life. You see everything—the good, the bad, and the ugly. Everything that happened to you, from birth to death. But then something amazing happens: the movie starts to change. It morphs into something new and beautiful, even though the actual events remain exactly the same. The only difference is how those events are being viewed now.

This is what can happen when we shift our vibration—how we vibrate inside ourselves—and it can change everything about how we live our lives if we're open to it!

When we shift our vibration from fear-based thinking (a low frequency) to love-based thinking (a high frequency), we start seeing our life from a new perspective and attracting more of that which we want into our lives. Changing our internal frequency is like tuning into a different radio station or television channel; suddenly all kinds of things start popping up on screen that weren't there before!

Polarity

The principle of polarity is simple: all things have two sides.  The existence of one thing depends on the presence of its opposite.

For example, light can only exist because it contrasts with darkness; love needs hate to be defined by its opposite; spirit needs matter to define itself; life needs death to have meaning; good needs evil so that we can appreciate it; wakefulness needs sleep so that we can appreciate the value of waking moments; courage needs fear so that we can recognize its opposite as a necessary part of life; joy requires sadness in order for us to understand its significance.

In Taoism, this principal is called Yin and Yang—the negative and positive forces that must work together in order for balance to exist. It's an idea that has been around since antiquity, but remains just as relevant today as it did thousands of years ago: opposites need each other in order for anything to exist at all.

How to use?

If you have a bad time in your life, remember that you are in the same line of happiness, but in its very low vibrational degree because that frequency we would call sadness. It takes effort to raise that vibration, also remember that the pendulum of life sooner or later returns to its starting point, so nothing lasts forever. Focus on knowing that what is happening to you is temporary.

Rhythm

The principle of Rhythm is the law that governs everything in the Universe. This law tells us that whenever there is an action, there will be a reaction; whenever there is an advance, there will be a retreat; whenever there is an ascent, there will be a descent. This principle would be "equivalent" to the concept of the flow of Qì in Taoism or of Prana in Hinduism, among other religions.

Everything ebbs and flows. We cannot always win or lose because everything does not last. Everything changes and vibrates, ebbs and flows. In life, as in nature, this principle manifests itself in the creation as well as in the destruction of worlds; in the progress as well as in the decadence of nations; in life and finally in the mental states of man.

How to use?

When difficult things happen to you in life, stop for a while and think, that corresponds to the pendulum swing of Karma. Nobody escapes from it, here what one has to learn is to be strong and remember that after the bad, comes the good and it is always like that and vice versa as well, in fact we need that yin yang to grow spiritually and someday to be able to be on the pendulum movement.

Cause & Effect

This principle states that every effect has its cause, and every cause its effect. Nothing happens by chance. Chance is a vain word. This principle embodies the truth that chance is only a term indicating the existence of an unrecognized or unperceived cause; that the phenomenon is continuous, without solutions of continuity.

Cause and effect reside merely in events. A happening or event is that which comes, arrives or occurs as a consequence or result of a previous happening or event. No event creates another, but is nothing more than the preceding link in the great coordinate chain of events flowing from the creative energy of THE ALL. This principle would be "equivalent" to the concept of karma in Hinduism and Buddhism, or the concept of Pratītyasamutpāda of Buddhism.

How to use?

Before you do anything, think that you live by consequence of Karma, let there be no evil within you, if you don't want it back. It is that every action, every thought, every stimulation of any energy has its after effect. Knowing this, if you really want a life full of happiness, use that Karma to generate energy of happiness towards others, so it will be returned to you by the law of Cause and Effect.

Gender

If you've ever wondered why we have different genders, the answer is simple: we need them to survive. Our bodies are capable of producing both eggs and sperm, which means that without the correct balance of female and male hormones, we would not be able to procreate.

We may have different physical attributes, but our genders are equal in their ability to create life. The principle of gender states that not all beings are the same; they are distinguished in their gender, and genders must continue to exist for life to continue. That being requires the various genders to maintain life, and that genders reflect each other and are equal in correspondence.

The word gender derives from the Latin root meaning "to conceive, procreate, generate, create, produce". A moment's consideration of the matter will show that this word has a much broader and more general meaning than the term sex—since the latter refers to the physical distinctions between male and female beings. This principle would be "equivalent" to one of the concepts present within Yin and yang in Taoism or of Sakti and Prakriti (the feminine) with Purusha (the masculine) in Hinduism.

How to use?

In order to create life, the two vibrations of the same energy, masculine and feminine, are required. I would say, in order to create whatever it is, in order for it to materialize, it requires those two vibrational sources, and the birth of those sources starts in our mind. Do not look at everything from the feminine or masculine point of view, but seek to understand both frequencies, unite them mentally by finding your feminine and masculine part, and create the idea of your life in balance with the Whole. Everything becomes much easier when you understand the vibrations of both genders, you begin to achieve mental clarity, blockages disappear and your life begins to be more fluid.

As you notice, all the 7 principles of Hermes are quite similar in their psychology.

If we were to color them all black and white, we would say that they are the same color (energy) and only change in their degrees (vibration/frequency).

The whole Kybalion makes reference to the fact that we have to learn to master the vibrations of energy if we want to appear in one point or another. And that is only possible through our thoughts and actions. We can raise our vibrational frequencies by forcing the mind to think with love, with joy, to think in abundance, in beauty, to abstain from destructive criticism, to opt for attitudes in accordance with our thoughts, so that these vibrations begin to rise to such a point that attracts everything that vibrates in that frequency, by correspondence, by cause and effect, etc.
